Ask AAFP to Reject Recent Support of Abortion

I have been a member of the AAFP since the late 1980's. I left the AMA because of its position on abortion, and will leave the AAFP if it begins to support abortion.

AAFP member for 28 years. I urge the AAFP to uphold the sanctity of life for all. Please include representatives from the large group of physicians who hold to the sanctity of life in the policy making discussions of the AAFP.

I will drop my AAFP membership if they support abortion. I have not belonged to the AMA for that same reason

I am a member of the AAFP and have been for almost 20 years

I am a former member of the AAFP Board of Directors and have been a member of the organization for more than 20 years. I am deeply disappointed that the Academy would even consider endorsing policies to support abortion, as abortion willfully ends the life of a human being at it's earliest stages and may harm the mother as well. As a Family Medicine resident at Lancaster General Hospital, I traveled with more than 150 family physicians to the Island of Kos in Greece where we stood in the Temple of Ascelepius and swore the Oath of Hippocrates stating in part, "I will use treatment to help the sick according to my ability and judgement, but never with a view to injury and wrongdoing. Neither will I administer a poison to anybody when asked to do so, nor will I suggest such a course. Similarly, I will NOT give to a woman a pessary to cause abortion." As the professional organization representing more than 100,000 members, I hope the AAFP will do the right thing and support policies that seek to achieve optimal health for everyone including our patients at their earliest stages of life. If the AAFP actively endorses policies to support abortion, I expect thousands of members will leave the AAFP to join organizations like the Association of American Physicians and Surgeons or the American Association of ProLife Ob-Gyns, who care for the best interests of ALL patients. Please do the RIGHT thing!
