I am a family physician in Virginia. Our governor, a pediatric neurologist, wishes to support infanticide as a viable choice for parents. Where do we draw the line once we say that some lives do not deserve to be protected? Stand up for our patients--all of them!

It's difficult to imagine embracing any policy that takes life when our purpose is to save life. It runs up against my medical values as well as God honoring moral values. I have been partners with AAFP for 25+ years. Increasingly, I am asking myself why I continue to partner with the AAFP.

Should the Board openly support abortion and federal funding I as a past president will immediately cancel my membership and all contact with both the Academy and the Foundation. Over many years I have served and contributed time and significant dollars. However, I cannot support any organization that condones the killing of innocent children. Let me add that some call this a “women’s rights” issue. Nothing could be further from the truth: half of those innocents killed are females - women. Respect life. That’s what my call as a physician has always been and will remain.
