Please think about how grave of decision this is as you will lose my membership as well as many other family physicians. AAFP should remain neutral on this controversial issue and fight to preserve the physician patient relationship to the mother and child. We must not forget our solemn oath to do no harm. As family physicians we commit to caring for the whole family. It is possible to love and care for both the mother and baby as most crisis pregnancies are due to financial stressors. Thanks for your consideration.

Family Medicine must care for Life. Why else would I have gone into family medicine? Please, stand for human life, no matter how frail and defenseless. Take courage. The physician owes it to each patient: to be willing to take a powerful stand to defend the very life of that patient.

I have been a member of AAFP for 30 years, but am concerned that it is no longer representing me on important issues of conscience. I quit the AMA over this issue and I will quit the AAFP over this issue if it goes too far. Is it really so important to alienate a segment of the membership to go down this path?
