I am a longtime AAFP member. The science of embryology is clear: the unborn are distinctly human from the moment of fertilization. An ethical argument against abortion can be derived from reason and science no matter what religious or non-religious background.

Due to the Academy's stance on abortion, I felt it necessary to end my long standing membership in the AAFP.

Please protect life and don’t put forward the taking of life. A Native tribe does not get stronger by killing their Young.

I am no longer a AAFP member because the organization does not represent my views regarding many social issues.

For the AFP to take a position on this devicive issue will only cause Physians like myself, who oppose abortion to leave the AAFP.

Please listen the the many AAFP like myself who strongly disagree with elective abortion. We as physicians have pledged "to do no harm". Elective abortion is without question harm and thus should not become a political issue for the AAFP.

I am a third year medical student planning on entering family practice someday in the near future. I strongly support this petition and believe the issues at hand to be of vital importance to the future of our culture of medicine, which should be a culture of life and helping others, not ending the lives of our most defenseless. To be a family physician is to care for the mother AND child at hand; both are our patients, and both deserve our utmost care and respect.

Abortion truly is the most extreme form of child abuse, is a horrible blight on our national conscience, and has no place in the AAFP.

It just does not make any sense that the AAFP would want to decrease their patient population by performing, referring for or advocating for abortion. There is absolutely no scientific evidence that abortion improves the health and well being of our patients. Now that we have such good maternal and neonatal care, there are no good medical reasons for abortion before or after viability. If the academy persists in the position against freedom of conscience, many of us will be leaving the membership. I delivered babies for 20 years and have been a member since medical school - of over 40 years.
