Ask AAFP to Reject Recent Support of Abortion

Dear AAFP. Please do not claim that you represent my views on abortion. Please do not use my money to support political action activities that support abortion or lobby for government funded abortion. If you do take a stand to support abortion, please allow members who are here to advocate for all patients and who respect pro-life options to abstain from donating to your political action fund and DO NOT count us in the numbers of physicians who support your agenda!

I am a supporter of good health practices and am Prolife.I can not I N good conscience support the AAFP it is to be there stance that Abortions are acceptable

Please reconsider your recent support of abortion. I, however, strongly support the AAFP’s mission and vision that we should strive to achieve optimal health for everyone, to improve the health of patients, families and communities. This also includes our fetal patients. To advocate for termination of life rather than better access to maternal and fetal healthcare is disappointing and detrimental to our patient-centered mission.

It is wrong to kill an innocent human being; Abortion kills an innocent human being; Therefore, abortion is wrong.

Every abortion deprives someone not only of her freedom or health, but of her very life.

Protecting women and mothers by protecting their rights and options to care for their health, in ways only each individual knows is, must be one of the priorities of FAMILY medicine. Thank you for AAFP's attention to this critical Issue.

As an AAFP member and full-time faculty in a family medicine residency program for 20 years, my experience is that the vast majority of resident physicians in family medicine and those who teach family medicine have no interest in performing abortions or in aggressively promoting them as a policy issue by family medicine. As a fellowship-trained researcher, I am sickened by the lack of scholarly integrity in abortion advocates claiming there are no physical or mental health consequences to abortion. As a national organization, we need to remain neutral on this issue.

I cannot and will not support or belong to an organization that supports anyone’s choice to kill another person. This goes against every fiber of my training. Additionally, I do not feel the AAFP should be weighing into this debate. If they do, they need to look at the whole picture and truly have a member wide debate. Does AAFP really want to become an abortion supporting organization? This will divide family medicine like no other issue in the past.

As an MD faculty in a Family Medicine residency, I strongly urge the AAFP to remain neutral on abortion and allow our new physicians to be critical thinkers.
