We the undersigned persons, being of the Asatru/Heathen (to include everyone worshiping the Norse Gods, and any and every supporter of this cause), hereby petition the United States Department of Defense to recognize the Thor's Hammer as a religious symbol on equal footing with the Christian cross, Jewish Star of David and Wiccan Pentagram.
Recently the DoD approved the Wiccan Pentagram as a symbol that can be placed on a service member's headstone. While we applaud the DoD for allowing the Pentagram to be put on headstones, we urge them not to stop there. There are many Heathens in the Armed Forces and in various places throughout the DoD. They deserve the right to have a symbol of their faith (the Thor's Hammer, Mjollnir) on their grave markers.
