Protect Armenia\'s Progress - Election 2008

We, as citizens of the United States and/or Armenia, urge the United States State Department to condemn the attempts by an opposition candidate, Levon Ter-Petrosian, to illegally seize power after losing in the recent Armenian Presidential election, which was pronounced by the main international vote-monitoring mission jointly deployed by the OSCE, the Council of Europe and the European Parliament as largely democratic and fair. Based on Ter-Petrosian\'s previous track record as President of Armenia, we believe that if he is allowed to illegally grab the presidency, it will reverse Armenia\'s hard earned substantial progress towards democracy and economic welfare. We urge the United States government to intervene and prevent a repetition of Levon Ter-Petrosian\'s dictatorial presidency, which in the 1990\'s was smeared by high level of corruption, regularly falsified elections condemned by international monitors, government sponsored persecutions of political opponents, economic hardships and violent oppression of individual freedom and liberty. We, the undersigned, in the interests of preserving the welfare of the Armenian people and of preventing any setbacks from the path to democracy in Armenia, request that the United States government take a firm stand in favor of democracy and human rights by publicly condemning Levon Ter-Petrosian\'s on-going attempts at an unpopular coup.
