We're all in agreement that the system needs to be changed but the reality of it is there is not enough gps to see the public demand. Another system would be great if it suited everyone but with such a large amount of patients what is the way forward? Walk ins - where you could have 500 people cueing you wait there for 1hr to be told sorry you must come back again tomorrow? Sit and wait take a number... Is this safe for a gp see so many people in one day? As again you could have 500 people sat there. Also I've witnessed people waiting for 30mins and kick off at the desks they staff have no control over how long peoples problems take? Would you like it if they had a 10timer and said sorry your time is up you'll have to come back if you need to discuss any thing else? The phone system is very difficult but the bottom line is if there were more doctors or nurse practitioners more people would be seen. Everyone's aware there is a national shortage which can't be helped. There are routes to try before going to the gp - pharmacies are great with advise to self medicate first option. Something does need to change but until there are more Dr available I don't think any system which will help.

i get frustrated redialling up to 60 times and when you get through that day's appointments have gone. There is no opportunity to make an appointment in a day or two

I read a newspaper article the other day saying that by law ALL surgeries must allocate a few online booking appts daily but that the public were having problems obtaining log in details from their surgeries. Could this be advertised more widely by surgeries?

Being able to walk into the surgery rather than phone would make it easier for people - perhaps then there wouldn't be so many missed appointments

It's a ridiculous system & I have made complaints in the past. The only way to get an appointment is to spend up to 45 minutes dialling & redialling starting at 8am. Often when you do get through no appointments are left. If you actually go into the surgery you are told to go outside & ring. Crazy. I have clients who only have mobiles & cannot afford the cost of the calls. Some people have no phone at all. I am aware of one lady who was quite ill & dragged herself off to the surgery only to be sent home to ring from a phone she didn't have. She had to use a neighbours phone. It's no wonder patients go to A&E for minor reasons.

It's almost impossible to get through to the doctors surgery. If one of my children are poorly you can spend an hour trying to get through, the mornings are difficult enough when you've got other children to get ready! And then you get through and are told there are no appointments, try again tomorrow! It's a disgrace. What are we paying our taxes for??

The old system they had worked fine. You could ring up and book appointments in advance. My job makes it difficult to call at 8am and when I do get through theres only ever appointments to see a nurse left.

im not from hawaii either.lol I live in waterloo Pembroke dock. And like most people (men in particular I think) there has to be something really amiss for me to go to the doctors . I never got my appointment and am now partially deaf. i have no faith in the system in the dock . the only time u will see me using the nhs is via an ambulance that someone else has called or i'll need a doctors signature on my death certificate.

I did a walk in as i didnt know u had to phone. they told me in the foyer i had to phone in for an appointment. I said i had caught a bus to get there and by the time i got home i would miss the cut off for an appointment that day. The manageress Goldsworthy said to use my mobile. I said i didnt have one. She then told me to use a pay phone. I asked her when was the last time she had used a public phone booth. With the average wait to pick up the call would cost in excess of 8 pounds. I said i didnt have 8 pounds . And neither did the majority of her catchment area. I was asked to leave. At no point did any one ask what the appt was for.

I ended up in hospital because I couldn't get an appointment on a Friday to see a doctor or be issued a prescription for pennecillin that I had had no trouble in getting for years when all the doctors had their own individual practices. They k ew their patients then and our children grew up with seeing their own doctor! How much did it cost the n.h.s. for my stay in hospital, just because of this system?!! Something has got to change!! What happened to the part in the hypocratic oath that says....FIRST DO NO HARM!!!!!

I hardly ever went to the doctors when I lived in Pembroke dock unless it was for my son, and then I couldn't used to get appointments after being on the phone for ages to them. When I finally did get through and they refused to see him I used to demand a doctor on call out.. Then all of a sudden a appointment had poped up. It seriously needs changing.
