Since a recent update to Mac OSX (Yosemite), Apple have introduced a new security feature called kext signing. This means all the people who used to enable TRIM using CLI cannot do this now without disabling kext signing first, potentially opening up a security risk to their device as it disables the feature for the entire machine.
TRIM is a OS feature required to do background tasks on a SSD hard disk to allow the OS to determine blocks that can be cleared up and areas of the drive that can readily be written to. Without TRIM the performance of an SSD is expected to degrade significantly over time.
As a result, this means only those SSDs purchased from Apple are supported which I believe to be of poor customer service and not to protect customers. I'm certain this can easily be enabled for 3rd party SSD TRIM whilst keeping the new kext security feature enabled.
Please sign this petition to convince Apple to enable TRIM within Mac OSX for all 3rd party SSDs.
Thank you.
