Dear Jonathan Ive and the Apple Team,
For years we have been very happy Macbook users at home and at work. We appreciate the laptop design, OS usability, and overall reliability of the Macbook. BUT, the Magsafe power adaptors' WIRES BREAK EASILY. Yes, its a cool looking white brick, with a built-in cable holder as well. But in a few months, the wires start to break at the point where it enters the power brick, or right before the magnetic connector.
We have other laptops from other manufacturers and their power adapters, while looking not as cool as Apple's, mostly still work after years of use. I have a 10 year old Windows notebook which still works really well. In our IT department, we now have 8 bad Macbook power adapters which unfortunately are no longer under warranty and have to be replaced - their wires cut or burned from the partial cut. And yes, they can be repaired if you manage to crack open the brick and just mend the wires. But that results in an ugly looking taped-up brick. We wish you had used screws at least to make it so much easier to fix the wires.
The Apple-way should be to extend the repair coverage for Macbook power adapter wires for 3 years, 5 years, or maybe even lifetime. Its a product design flaw.
A product can be greater than the sum of its parts - but in the case of the Macbook, a faulty power adapter wire makes it poorer than other uglier laptop products.
BTW, why not make the cable going to the Macbook removable just like what you have for the cable/dongle going to the power outlet?
