PLZ add mobile dev. Everyone is asking for it at career fair and I have literally nothing to show them.

As a recent grad (WPI CS'17) who has done both web and mobile development at internships and will soon start a full time job in mobile development, I wholeheartedly agree that WPI needs to overhaul the CS curriculum to modernize it with web and mobile classes. Compared to friends at other schools, we study rather primitive technologies in many of our CS classes, which are not up to date with current technologies used at top tech companies today. Moreover, we are only offered one introductory mobile development class in Android, which isn't alone adequate to make a competent Android developer (trust me, I TA'd it), whereas iOS development is the most prevalent in the job market. We also only have one class in web development that is only offered one term a year, which entails that many students (including me) are unable to take it due to off campus IQPs and MQPs. Many of us have to resort to taking online courses from Coursera, MIT and Stanford to learn current web and mobile technologies, which should not be the plight of students at a top tech school.

I'm an incoming design student interested in subjects such as UI/UX design. I was drawn to the classes at WPI for how well they integrate design with computer science, technology, and so on. That being said, I strongly agree that we need more app design/dev classes as a reflection of the current climate. It would be disadvantageous and disappointing for current students to not be better exposed to this crucial part of the industry.

The rise of entrepreneurship at WPI is so exciting, and it's great to see so many students who are eager to explore this emerging avenue of professional work.

We shouldn't have to take online courses from other universities to learn this when we're paying 65k a year for a CS degree.

WPI needs app development courses if it wants any chance in keeping up with other tech schools.
