This is a shame and can not be argumented with any excuse like those distributed recently by various Media.

I am sorry to say I am not surprised. In my student years in Romania during Coomunism, I was occasionally called "lifta straina" by class mates (a derogatory term for foreigners), even though that was forbidden by law,and intellectuals with whom I discussed the large-scale massacres in Bessareabia in 1941, called them 'normal war-time incidents.'

Tolerance and education are necessary to overcoming antisemitism.

I am saddened, but not surprised. Antisemitism has a very long tradition in Romania and although hidden during the communist years, it immediately resurfaced as soon as the "free" press and the Orthodox Church didn't fear reprisals. Antisemitism and racism in Romania are not limited to uneducated people; the so called intellectuals have always been nationalists (read xenophobes). As far as Jewish people in Romania, although there is ample documentation of Jewish presence in the territory even prior to the Roman conquest, the Jews have always been regarded as foreigners and denied citizenship and civil rights.

This is government-sponsored bigoted propaganda, plain and simple. What place do these hateful sentiments have in the world in the 21st century?

The excuse that appeared in some Romanian publication was essentially claiming that this was not related to the holocaust, that it was one of thousands of Christmas Carols, that it was simply following the New Testament which teaches that the Jews delivered Jesus to the Romans to be executed and that this whole controversy makes a mountain of a mole hill. Sorry, but I do not buy it. Considering the attrocities commited by Romanians against Jews, diferent only in their extent from those comitted by Germans and Hungarians, such "oversights" cannot happen. This is clearly an intentional anti-Semitic propaganda piece and anyone who keeps quiet about is implicitely becoming part of the crime.
