I have been an acupuncturist in California for 23 years. ASH is ruining our profession and most importantly The standard of care in the field of acupuncture and chiropractic. Because I am not in network with American specialty health so far I only had to deal with patients who have Anthem Blue Cross with ASH managing their acupuncture plans. These plans all state that the first five dates of service per diagnosis code should not require pre-authorization from ASH. Yet, when submitting these claims ASH is denying them based on not medically necessary. A patient being treated for acute low back pain is not medically necessary?! There’s no disputing ASH because they simply bully their way through. After having this happened with over a dozen patients I’m not even taking those plans anymore. With each of those patients I submitted documentation various times to ASH, exactly in the format they require and they still denied them based on the same reasons. This denies patients their healthcare and in my opinion should be considered completely illegal because the plan states otherwise.

I stand with all practitioners against ASH. I see no value added to patients or providers, just insurance companies.

ASH is a middle man wants to take our money without doing anything!! We are the providers and we DO NOT need the 3rd party to stolen our hard work money!! We should all get TOGETHER to fight this scam!! ASH sucks!! Start telling all your Blue Shield PPO patients about this scam!! Let them know the truth! The patient’s pay the PPO insurance but they won’t get the PPO Benefits and it’s will be HMO!! It’s a insult to our professionals!!

American Specialty Health is a company whose main goal is to deny medically necessary care to their subscribers and drive down reimbursement rates to their contracted providers. Rumor is that claim reviewers get paid commissions on how many claims they deny. I was tired of constantly fighting them lowest reimbursement rate in the industry. The red tape is ridiculous. I left the network last year and will not return. I wish other providers would do the same. Put them out of business and return to a fair market1

We cannot do quality work with low pay. ASH will does not give good healthcare. It places the burden on the Dr. and the patient. we need insurance companies to value time spent with patients and the amount of money we save there company in preventing costly operations.

To whom it may concern acupuncture brought my pain level from a 5 6 to a 3 and no recurring higher pain I have had this pain for over 30 years and nothing has helped me but acupuncture now ASH only allows one treatment every 10 days my pain is now at a 5 6 level at times reaches 9 10 pain levels for hours also my acupuncturist who doesn’t receive proper payment only a total of 41 dollars which include my copay this is a travesty we need to be heard thank you
My acupuncturist only gets a fraction of what they need to pay her. I was shocked to hear how much she is given from ASH. It is not fair to expect the practitioner to get paid less for all the work she does. My co-pay is more than what ASH appropriates for her.
