It would be acceptable to me to increase fees instead

I have been active in genealogy research since 1966 and count myself a heavy user of DNA test data, administering a number of relatives' DNA test as well as my own. I USE AND VALUE 6-8 cM matches -- triangulate them with groups of my relatives' test data. PLEASE do not remove them. Thank you.

Ancestry - Rather than removal, please provide a tool that empowers your customers to control the exclusion level used.

Please reconsider your plans to take out matches below 8cm.

All of my brick walls are GG Grandparents. I need these matches. Please, do not take them. Instead, give current subscribers the option to keep all or delete these matches, essentially "grandfathering" us in, and the new subscribers start at the 8cM mark.

I wish to collaborate with ALL my matches of brick walls so do not delete anything

I think people should be able to have a choice in this, I use distant matches all the time because my tree goes back to 10 generations on some lines

At the very least, please preserve our 6-8cM matches that have Shared Ancestor hints/ThruLines!

In more than 30 years of genealogy the single most exciting thing I have discovered is that I had an ancestor who was a Royal Marine on board HMS Victory during the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805. This discovery came via a ThruLine connection to a 6 cM match. Don't delete my small DNA matches.

Let me be the judge as to whether a match is a false positive or not . This move shows no respect for your customers & appears to have very little interest in anyone's ' back story'

I find these smaller cm matches valuable to break brick walls and provide tree information that I might never come across. I also have 3 rd and 4th verfied cousins who match me at these levels. They are valuable as welll for genealogical iinfo for generations beyond the common ancestor level. If you are having storage issues let people pay a small extra fee to have these smaller matches..

Along with Black Lives Matter, so do small amounts of DNA for that community.

I'm particularly concerned about the impact on African Americans.

This isn’t right. You claim you support black lives matter but if this is your plan then your not supporting black people at all. Most African American and Native (Indigenous) people rely on matches under 8 cM. This is because many don’t know anything outside their Immediate family, first cousins and uncles and aunts. This is partly because both groups have ancestors that couldn’t afford DNA testing let alone running water! To rob them of their history to save yourselves a couple bucks is a cheap shot at their expense. Besides, if I’m paying you a subscription I deserve to choose to keep my matches under 8 cM. Otherwise what am I paying you for? This is a social justice issue as well as a issue for anyone adopted with limited knowledge such as myself. Or those missing branches of their family tree. Many already voiced their plans to cancel their subscriptions with Ancestry if this goes through.

This is very disappointing of Ancestry. I know that there are false matches in that small-segment set; However, there are many diamonds in the rough! I have discovered and corresponded with someone who turned out to be my third cousin - she and I share 7 cM of DNA. This opened an entire branch of our family that neither family knew of previously; my grandfather was orphaned at an early age and then passed away before I was alive; DNA was the ONLY WAY we could have made this connection - and the key was a 7cM match! Please keep the matches!

Leave it alone!

The size of the cM match is far, far less the issue than the credibility and size of the tree... feel free to delete the ones that don't bother with a tree but leave the others alone and don't forget who's data it is... it's not yours is a hint.
