The Michigan State University College of Veterinary Medicine would like to formally adopt the following mission statement, originally drafted by the LGVMA:
"The Michigan State University College of Veterinary Medicine (MSU CVM) encourages its faculty, staff, and students to view, evaluate, and treat all persons in any professional activity or circumstance in which they may be involved, solely as individuals on the basis of their own personal abilities, qualifications, and their relevant characteristics.
The MSU CVM confronts and rejects all forms of prejudice and discrimination that have led to misunderstanding, hostility and injustice. These include, but are not limited to, those based on race, ethnicity, gender, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity, parental status, religious beliefs, military or veteran status, political beliefs, geographic, socioeconomic, and educational background and any other characteristic protected under applicable federal or state law."
We, as a student body, are in support of this change because it makes clear our commitment to inclusion and creating a welcoming environment to present and incoming community members.

The feedback I have received from fellow students reinforces the necessity of these words for our college culture. We are currently preparing to present these signatures to the administration to demonstrate how many of us believe in a more inclusive future for our institution.

Reaching this level of support confirms that our community truly values a culture of respect and equity. It is encouraging to see so many people align themselves with the principle that every individual deserves to be judged solely on their own merits. This groundswell of agreement suggests that we are ready to move toward a more inclusive future for the college.

LONG OVERDUE. This is the bare minimum for professional schools these days.
its 2016. about time msu cvm caught up with the real world. treat people with basic respect it isnt that hard.
