Not sure if you'll see this. If you do pass this on to your management. I work as a medic in rural arkansas. Every agency here went to mandatory vests on every call, after a first responder was shot and killed by a man having a seizure, who mistook the medics for a home invader. The vests we got for our department were inexpensive, you can clearly have them show that you are EMS and not police, nobody mistakes an ambulance crew for a police crew. Don't let your management hide behind that excuse to try to avoid paying a few extra dollars to protect your lives. You need these, all medics should wear them.

Whomever the powers that be that makes the decision to deny this request should have to ride a bus for a month beforehand.

Medics kind of already look like police so if someone is high, drunk or does not perceive reality well in the first place it makes sense that they should have some defense in case people attack.

it should never get to the point where there needs to be a petition to protect the people that only want to save lives.

Emergency response personnel should always be given the tools they need to perform their duties as safely as possible. Visual/mental deterrents are no replacement for physical safeguards.

Get them the vest and quit being hard headed about. They can't save lives if they can't save themselves. The days of Eisenhower and Andy Griffith are over and worrying about perception gets good people killed. It's a crying shame that this petition even has to exist.

Emergency responders are faced with dangerous situations everyday to help save the lives of strangers. The least we can do is make sure they are a safe as possible while they do so.

It's absolute common sense that these would be provided for paramedics. EMS risk their lives to begin with, and should be given as much protection as possible in the field. First Responders save lives, and endanger themselves to do so.

EMS has literally saved my life 5 times. I am only 53 years old. Their lives are so very important. Times have changed and are very dangerous for these heroes. Please allow these vests.

Our first responders should not have to pay for these out of their own pocket.
