Not only could this help save lives of those struck by violent catastrophe, it could protect the lives of those braving catastrophe to save others. Everything should be done to protect the men and women who look out for us. No brainer.

EMS are vital to human life, how come they don't have anything preventing them from being endangered?

EMS need vests. At times they are placed in the same dangerous situations as police yet they have no protection whatsoever unlike the police. What's up with that?

A paramedics duty is to save lives and they are unable to do this while they are being attacked. Through these attacks you now see a need for body armor to protect them so they may continue saving lives. I understand it might make them look more like law enforcement but if you require the body armor to be a different color (red, yellow, orange w/e) with big letters across the back that says MEDIC, MEDICAL, EMS etc. then this would distinguish them as not law enforcement. The color of the vest could even been a deterrent as the attacker would see they are wearing a vest and could realize they would have a more difficult time attacking the paramedic. The color would even draw more attention to the incident cause the attacked to be seen by more people as he/she commits the violent act. All in all I highly support the push for body armor to be worn by our paramedics. Eventually I would like to see them worn by paramedics all across the US.

If your paramedics and EMTs are requesting further safety measures, it's your damned duty to provide it for them.

I agree as a police officer with the current situations of luring EMS to areas to ambush them for narcotic theft and with the continuing mass shooting situations that EMS do need a armor option. Not to wear full time but under situations of emergency. The color should be clear and distinguishable from LEO and needs to be marked well. The other option is concealed armor which can be worn under the uniforms they have already.
