Why would you NOT want to do this for the people that run in to often dangerous situations to help others?? If their lives are not important enough to you to act immediately, just think of those that will not be saved if they are hurt. If it's a question of money start a go fund me and I will donate from Texas to help your city get it together. Please help your first responders!! Thank you

EMT from another state that in high crime areas allows it. It's important to keep safe when you're expected to fix those in danger.

I wish this was a nation wide requirement! I have experienced medical and fire first responders first hand who have died because they didn't have armour on.

I am from South Africa, and fully support the EMS guys and gals from Portland to be able to achieve this. Further I think this is something that should be a given the world over, that all EMS crews are allowed, and given this, to keep them safe, while they're trying to save us!!

First responders deserve to be safer when entering situations that risk their own life. Give them the vests.
