This law needs to be changed. Parents have the ability to hold a child back if they do not feel he or she is ready for Kindergarten, but if your child is advanced and ready for school and her birthday happens to be after the deadline they have to wait an entire year, Then, once they are in school they are often bored and disruptive. Not only that, but they often can become lazy because school is easy and they don't have to try. This sets a bad precedent for their later years when school classes require more effort, wether that be middle school high school, or college. My own daughter was one of those children. I pushed for her to skip K. At first, the administration didn't want to allow for it, but I stuck to my guns. I told the administration, "look, if she stats in 1st and can't do it, we can always move her, but if she can do it, why should we hold her back?" She was allowed into 1st, and did so well her teacher thanked me for standing up for her. She is now in 7th grade and is still at the top of her class. Education needs to be about the student's readiness and ability, not an arbitrary birthday cut off.

Please consider children of all ages to determine reqdiness before the age of 5. My daughter was ready at age 3 (was and still is advanced) missed the deadline this year and will be almost 6 befor e she can enter Kindergarten, 2 years of waiting while ready! This is not the best for the child or th educational system!

My daughter missed the deadline by two days so she took preschool for an additional year.

My Daughter missed the deadline by one day! I stayed with the rules and didn't cheat my way around it. I am a working mother and it is hard enough to find a babysitter, especially one who will take them to Preschool for half a day. I have relied heavily on my neighbors to get her to School. She took 3 years of Preschool. I did not want to do another half day so I had her tested to see if she could skip Kindergarten and go to First Grade. The Principal was very impressed with her, she was happy to start her in 1st grade! I completely agree that some children can handle starting earlier and some can not. Please test them before completely turning them away.

Kids are such good and quick learners the younger the better! Making them wait does not benefit them I know thru personal experience that when they are given the chance they do great!

My son is going into 4th grade and had always been way ahead of himself. However he had started to decline a bit in 3 rd grade out of pure bordom. Things start out great at the first of the year then he declines at the end of the year. However even though it has been offered to go a grade up he has now made his friends and will decline if I move him up. It is to late for him now. I would like to see other peoples children of this nature have a better option.

I've been hoping someone would do this. My son missed the cut off date for kindergarten by 2 weeks and when I registered him for preschool, they told me my son might not make the cut because he seems to advanced for preschool. SERIOUS? How can u deny a kid who wants to start off strong in his education? I hope this passes, because I hate to see my kids sad that they can't start school when they should and have to wait another whole year to do so.

My daughter should be starting kindergarten this year, she's already had a year and a half of preschool and will be 5 in September.
