One thing that Covid has shown us is that we need more localized food security. When the egg shelves were empty, I was able to provide 3 neighbours and our garbage man with eggs from our Urban backyard hens. The more Communities that allow urban chickens, the more people are food secure in times of scarcity.

The ownership of chickens should be no different than ownership of cats and dogs. It’s my property, i pay the bill. I should be able to do as i please. As long as it’s not causing issues with neighbours.

Everyone needs to be a little more self reliant and stop bitching about smell. If you are a good neighbor you will make sure they are cleaned up regularly and the droppings are a great additive to flower beds and gardens once dried. Very little smell.

There is no reason a house 2 minutes from full blown farms can't responsibly house laying hens

even if limited to a low number, if people can have large breeds of pets in town, chickens shouldn't be outlawed

Seriously, Stirling, time to join the big towns. What harm are a few clucking chickens going to do? Imagine how happy the neighbors of these urban farmers will be when they are given a gift of fresh eggs.

This would be amazing if they amended the bilaws. I think dogs are louder make more mess. I had one. Poop, holes dug in my yard and barked at everyone passing by. I would love to have a small chicken coop with a few chickens. Being self reliant is a lost art and allowing families to have chickens would be a blessing. We have two great feed stores in town. How awesome would it be for us to support local business and even families. Please consider changing the bylaw. Thank you. Sincerely Luesha Terry

A few hens (no roosters) cause much less noise then many of the dogs in town. As long as the coop and run are maintained/kept clean there should be no reason to ban them. Teaching children where their food comes from and simple animal husbandry should be encouraged. Especially when considering neighbouring towns allow it.

if we learn anything from this pandemic, it should be that we need to return to the ways of our grandparents, I would love to teach my children about raising chickens to provide us and our neighbours with fresh eggs. This combined with growing our own vegetables, which I started two years ago, will teach them sustainability, looking after our planet, our neighbours and our community. Let us raise a few chickens and give the next generation a chance to make the world a better place for generations to come.
