Class of 2012, and student of Dr. Sue Goliber. I couldn't be more upset by this change, and hope that President Newman reconsiders this move, and reinstates these retirement benefits. If not, I hope the Mount will reconsider President Newman.

Being Catholic is about more than the words that you speak, it is about the actions that you take. Being a Mount Alumni is about being a part of a greater community. It is the professors and staff that made my experience what it was and helped develop my as a student and an individual. It is my hope that the Mount will reconsider it's actions to reflect the dignity and worth of those who gave so much to this institution.

At Mount St. Mary's, we as students were instilled with values and virtues such as fairness, justice, community and loyalty. Where is the fairness in this? The JUSTICE? Why is the Mount, as an institution, financially abandoning an important part of its community in an effort to put a band-aid over a larger, gaping financial wound? Should the Mount not remain loyal to these people, who gave years of their life, their intellect, their service and their own loyalty to Her and Her students? This abrupt decision, as well as the decision to cut the benefits of existing employees, is heinous for an institution that preaches these values, and such a series of decisions need to be immediately reconsidered. As a Daughter of the Mount, I am deeply saddened and disappointed and, frankly, angered by my alma mater and Her administration today. President Newman and administration, I implore you: reconsider the decisions you've made, with transparency and with input from the Mount Community, who very much loves their university.

It is vital that you respond to these concerns swiftly and with transparency. Our professors have been guides, mentors, surrogate parents, friends, and key figures in our development and growth at a key time in our young adult years. Mount Alumni will be watching this issue closely and are hoping that you will resolve it with the sense of justice and responsibility it deserves.

I worked for the physical plant for 45 years before retiring, then this is how the MT says" thanks."

As an alum, the spouse of an alum, and an occasional adjunct instructor, I am deeply embarrassed to hear that my alma mater is treating its greatest asset--its faculty and staff--with such disregard. I will not stand by and see the place and the people who formed me be stripped of the dignity and justice we profess and strive to live out.

The faculty are the greatest reason why I am proud to call myself an alumna of the Mount. Surely there are better ways to save money than to take healthcare away from some of the people who have given more of themselves to the Mount than any of us?
