Petition in Support of Alternative to Incarceration for Dorian Brooks

Dorian "Author Malik" Brooks is a positive influence in our community and touches the lives of many through his inspiring talk show "Just A Jewel," as well as through grass roots organizations like Operation SNUG in Yonkers, New York. His motivational presence on social media outlets such as Facebook and Instagram has allowed his positive impact to transcend geographical limitations.
Although Dorian acknowledges the very real consequences of his past bad decisions for himself and his community, he harnesses the lessons learned from those decisions into a force for effecting positive change. Among other things, Dorian has spoken at colleges, schools, and jails. He has spoken at NYU Law School, Columbia University, and Fordham University, just to name a few.
Dorian assists audiences in recognizing and redirecting negative thought patterns and practices in order to achieve optimum personal growth. His inspiring and motivational messages, often conveyed through clever analogies and relatable storytelling, have touched many.
While there is no doubt that Dorian's current legal issues and the charges he faces are serious, it would be a disservice to the community to simply end the positive work he is currently doing for others by incarcerating him. On the contrary, Dorian should be held accountable and responsible for his choices by continuing to inspire others not to make the same mistakes he did and continuing to share how he has grown into a person who will never make such mistakes again.
As a person who has been directly impacted and touched by Dorian's positive influence, I sign this petition in support of an alternative to incarceration for Dorian Brooks.

This is entirely because of your belief in redemption and the work he does for our community. Dorian has Spoken for my organization while on bail and has motivated my kids beyond my expectations. I acknowledge his errors, but we must not ignore his good. He is not a liability to our society he's definitely an asset. Thanks for this opportunity.
Dorian Brooks has being a positive influence to me, to the point where I invited him to speak at Fordham University when I was in attendance. I begged for leniency for the charges he faced.
District Attorney Eric Gonzalez please consider an alternative to incarceration. Dorian Brooks has become a vital advocate to his community. He has taken his experiences to empower others. Incarcerating Dorian Brooks would be a disservice to the lives he has impacted. Thank you
I've seen Dorian be such an inspiration and positive influence to the community. We actually need more role models like him who have made regretful decisions in their past but recognized the depth of their mistakes and literally made a 360 degree change. It is men like him who can make such a change we need more of in the community to inspire others that they too can do the same.
Community activist who made a transformative impact on those who might begin to believe that crime is the way to go.. The District Attorney job is to prosecute those that don’t uphold the law, Author Malik job is prevent the youth from coming to the courts, please see the good in that, and leave him on the streets.. He is an agent of change that can inspire our youth not to make the mistakes he made. He can point out the negative influence of so called friends and the consequences of making bad decisions. I ask for leniency when his case is heard. Please allow him to continue his work as a motivational speaker for our youth.

Mr. Brooks impact on the youth and young men and women who have found themselves in similar positions to him is far to valuable for him to not be able to use his voice and story to inspire these young men and women to make better decisions.
