Something MUST be done to alleviate this growing problem. It is unthinkable that this exists in the 21st Century and a national disgrace.

I fully agree that it is time for the Irish Government to step up and provide practical, affordable and efficient housing for our elderly. These are the people who contributed to building and shaping Ireland and it is now their time to be taken care of in a caring and consistent way.

Scandalous to think that people who worked hard all their lives are not being looked after,it,s always the neediest in our society who suffer the most....

WE MUST LOOK OUT FOR OUR Older People who should be allowed to live out their life with dignity. Older people, particularly women had their lives circumscribed by religion. Contraception was illegal, families were big. Older people have given a lot to this country. Most never had continental holidays or indeed holidays at home, they looked after their elderly parents, reared a family, life was difficult. The woman had to give up her job on marriage. Women were dependent while men were meant to be dependable. Sometimes this did not work out, jobs were not secure, marriages ended. Even the child benefit was paid to the husband. Older people have been through many recessions. The idea of a Gap Year or a Sabbatical are an alien concept to older people. We will all (hopefully) grow old, how we look after our elderly now will determine how we will be looked after in the future.

I am fully behind this petition. I am baffled as to how we can offer help to others and have such scant regard for our own.

Older people have worked all their lives, contributing to society. They deserve to be treated with respect and taken care of.
