I just checked the DOL website for available appointments at all offices across the state. All but 3 showed no openings from now until beyond 2022. The closest w/ available appts being over 3 hrs from my home. During the current need to stay close to home, it would be safest to not have to travel 1/2 way across the state just to get a Instructional permit for my son.

I am in favor of this petition. It seems like a reasonable accommodation to the unusual circumstances we are all in right now. I have twins who have just completed their online classroom component, and they need to get driving soon for effective development of their skills. By some miracle we were able to find the only 2 consecutive appointments in the state a month from now and over a 90-minute drive away. (Actually it's a miracle we found 2 appointments at all, from what my husband is seeing while looking at options for an enhanced license appointment--the only 1 available right now is on the other side of the state the same day as our kids' permit appointments.) The combination of a 3-month backlog and decreased capacity for appointments (health measures and furlough days) means this will take many months to eliminate the demand for appointments. Photo ID seems not very important for an instructional permit, since they are required to be with a licensed driver at all times while driving. We understand the reasons for the closures to date; it's time for reasonable and creative ways to help move life forward to the extent possible.

If you want us to stay home and remain separated, you must fulfill your obligation to make state resources accessible immediately. Please sign and approve so our son can get his learners permit.

I would really like to get my permit I need to practice driving even if it’s during a pandemic because I need to get driver license to get a job and provide
