This is unfair, and seemingly unlawful. As a business that opened as a live music venue, and still made it through a pandemic through unique events, how could the city shut them down rightfully after a noise ordinance that matched the volume of the crickets outside? The traffic on rt.59 is louder than the venue! Birds and trees in the wind produce more decibels than the music when standing on neighboring property. That is unjust. The city should have never let them open in the first place if this was going to be the parameter. Now after 16 years of business, providing jobs and opportunity for community growth in multiple scenes, law enforcement decides that they’re too loud!? There has got to be a mistake here, or another underlying cause for this action. Shame on West Chicago. It sounds like WEGO would rather put people in the streets, than provide a safe community event space/restaurant/bar/lounge. Doesn’t West Chicago receive multiple taxes from this business, from property to alcohol and liquor sales tax? Doesn’t this venue bring tourists from out-of-state or even out-of-country (I’ve witnessed Australian headliners perform at Cairo) that would otherwise never visit this small suburb of Chicago? This place brings business not only to the Cairo, but to the entire city of West Chicago. This action will hurt the city just as it will the venue.

I absolutely love Cairo! Finding live music in the suburbs is hard enough as it is, and without Cairo, the local scene would completely die out.

I support the Cairo venue and do not appreciate the treatment they are receiving from the City of West Chicago. By the way, my neighbors have played music WAY louder at 2am and the police didn't make them stop and the city didn't do anything. I've seen the police cam footage and you can tell that the crickets and cars were louder than the music heard coming out of this venue. Ridiculous and shameful to do this to a respectful and respected small business!

If you can't be loud at the corner of North Ave and 59, where can you be loud? It's not residential and most of the businesses near are closed at night.

If Cairo has been around for 16 years, and it’s just now that this has been an issue- there is more to the story. Demand the truth of the situation- who wants the business gone and for what purpose? Shame on the city for not recognizing the importance of this establishment and all their contributions to the community. The city needs to consider the concerns of all peoples, not just a certain group of people.
