I cannot even grasp the idea that a petition is needed for this! There has been a four year audition for the opportunity to speak and she won! WHY ARE WE HAVING THIS CONVERSATION? When it becomes about anything else, it becomes something else.

This young lady has earned the right to speak. If the others' want to speak, fine but the Valedictorian should definitely speak as the final farewell...

The Valedictorian should ALWAYS speak at graduation. It's an honor that should not be denied her.
You can also make time for another student who auditioned, but the top scholar should always be allowed to address her peers. Allow Toni Bronars to speak to her graduating class in 2015.

The tradition dictates that the valedictorian give a speech at graduation. This honor is EARNED! You cannot audition for it. Allow the 2015 SRHS to give her speech. She EARNED the right.

I understand wanting to give other students, who may not be high grade achievers, the opportunity to speak. I was one of those students who's grades would never have gotten me close to that stage, but would love to have contributed to the ceremony.
That being said, this is an honor associated with her title and her achievements. I believe SRHS has the ability to combine both the auditioned students and Ms. Bronars' speeches and hope they can find a way to do so.
