Allow the valedictorian of SRHS's Class of 2015 to speak at the commencement ceremony

Did she get to speak? Congrats to her, she deserves the speech and recognition

This is an exemplary young lady in every way and has already proven the right to speak to her school's graduation class. Shame on the school for not giving her this well deserved honor!

She earned the right to speak when she received a 4.85 GPA. Absurd policy SRHS. So absurd that the media have picked it up

Truly sad that high school officials would choose to honor their valedictorian by keeping her silent at graduation. Having your valedictorian speak is an honor for the school as much as it is for the individual. It is a chance for the school to display their finest. As a past valedictorian from Belleville High School in NJ, I am shocked at the stupidity of such a policy.

4 years of dedication deserves just a little recognition. Don't you think.. Do the right thing SRHS Administration & faculty.

She deserves to speak. My sister was valedictorian for her class and our family was so proud when she stepped up to the podium to deliver her speech.

Absolutely, that's an entitlement that was earned.

Since when is HS commencement speech a performance? This young woman EARNED the right to speak and so did every other valedictorian whom you didn't let speak. Since when did we get away from honoring academic achievement and focus instead on performance? The best qualifications for this role are her academic achievements not an arbitrary decision by a panel of "judges." Commencement isn't a show. It's a celebration of academic achievement.

Why couldn't the person who won the competition and this young lady both speak?

I do not usually sign petitions but I just saw this story on the news and I had to respond. I was the Valedictorian of my graduating class and I know how proud my family was when I delivered my speech at the commencement ceremony. Please do not penalize this student because she did not audition to someone's liking. Think about what she has sacrificed for the last 4 yrs, all the long hours up studying, taking AP classes and dreaming of this day that you are now taking away from her. No matter how she says the speech or what she says, she earned the right to deliver it to her classmates. Don’t steal her dream from her. There are no options or compromises. I am sure she will send a message to the graduating class that they will remember for the rest of their lives. For the sake of rewarding performance and academic achievements, do the right thing and allow her to deliver the speech on graduation day. You would want the same for your child if in the same position. Thank you.

Saw the 10News story on this. Simply ridiculous! Bronars should give the speech because she EARNED it by becoming valedictorian.

The position of valedictorian is an honor bestowed to the top student of a graduating class based on their academic performance. Leave it to a southern CA school to turn it into a contest for seniors to vie for being in the limelight. How shallow and ignorant!

Celebrate the students long term accomplishments through hard work! Let her deliver her validictorian speech.
