Mayor Nutter of Philadelphia has proposed a regulation against feeding the homeless in public parks. This is outrageous and will cause both the homeless and those who help the homeless to suffer. The homeless will be without food and those who try to help will be fined $150 if they just go and feed the homeless. With this new regulation it will deter people from helping the homeless and cause those who cannot get to a shelter to possibly die. The regulation puts harsh standards for the procedures for groups to feed the homeless outdoors with volunteers having a certificate, attended city classes, and the food is toughly scrutinized. HELP and show brotherly love by signing this petition and say IT IS MY CIVIL RIGHT TO BE ABLE TO HELP THE HOMELESS IN A PUBLIC PLACE.
The city keeps ignoring our questions about these new restrictions but the silence only proves they know this policy is wrong. My days are spent meeting with advocates and trying to parse the legal language of these fines. I am drained by the bureaucratic games but I refuse to walk away while people are going hungry.

How can you fine someone for giving out a sandwich? Absolute madness. My heart breaks for these people and now the city is making it worse.

This is just plain wrong. People are hungry and cold and the city wants to stop us from helping? Nutter needs to get his priorities straight.

Ridiculous. Everyone deserves to eat. If the city wont help them at least let the rest of us do it without getting in trouble.
