This is not fair on the PIO/OCI holders. This group needs to be given the chance to exchange old notes in their country of residence and with respect.

Mr. president did not clarify anything about 25,000 limit for NRI ( NRI HOLDING FOREIGN PASSPORT) after
December 2016 , he also did not say about only 5 RBI branches in India. Had
NRI known that then many people would have planned to come to India before
ending December 2016. Now, why RBI is only allowing 25000 Rupees limit where
Return tickets to come to India from abroad ( USA ) is at least 75,000 - 1
Lakh rupees for just economy class . So, it is not worth at all to go to
India to deposit just 25000 Rupees. They are scare to loose their hard
earned money. Mr. P.M. And RBI should help them out by increasing limit to
at least 1 lakh or more . Or it should be allow them to deposit under 2.5
lakh like they did it before December 31-2016 with showing proof or source
of income ! Some people said that they found old notes of 1lakh in their
home/locker. So how are they able to deposit or exchange it? Friend of mine
, got the money from bank because he needed to pay someone but was not able
to give it on that day evening due to having flight & was not able to go to
the bank due to having flight in few hours, needed to pack bags and in that
chaos , had to bring money back in emergency. That's not small amount to
loose. They are terrified about loosing their hard earned money. Please ,
try to understand before making this kind of unnecessary rules. Please find
out the source, have them use PAN card or whatever necessary documents.
Also, why certain branches of RBI ? People in Gujarat will have to go to
Mumbai or Delhi for those listed RBI branches and for that they they will
have to spend 20,000- 35,000 just to deposit 25,000 Rupees . That doesn't
make sense at all. First of all most NRI is able to get only 2-3 weeks of
leave , in that if women alone doesn't go to Mumbai /Delhi alone so, she has
to take someone with her for her safety so that will be extra costs ( Train
tickets, hotels, food etc) ! Government should think about all this before

I and my wife are OCI card holders living in Chicago. I am a senior citizen 70 years old and I visit India every year to see my parents (aged 90 years) and also visit my relatives. I have some money left over from our previous visits retained to meet with the expenses for future travel. I was planning on making a visit to India to see my sick mother (aged 87 years). In light of the demonetization of Indian currency, we were not sure about the process to be followed to exchange the old notes with new one's.
I contacted the department of finance ministry at 011 91 112309 5763 from Chicago prior to my departure to seek an advise. I was informed that no law has been passed yet for OCI card holders and it is under consideration. I was also advised to declare the money at customs upon arrival and take a certificate. I along with my wife landed in Hyderabad on 27th of January 2017. We spent nearly 4 hours to do the paperwork (listing each note and the number).After all that when we presented the old devalued notes, we were declined saying that we are not NRI's and they do not have any directives or the clear distinction between NRI and OCI. (Even I was under the impression that NRI and OCI are the same as we still have all our roots to our home land where we are born). I made an application outlining my situation and the advise given to me on phone by the finance ministry prior to my departure and requested the customs officials to detain the notes pending the clarification from the authorities concerned. They were kind enough to agree and detained the notes and issued a detention letter for records. We urge the authorities to help us quickly so that we can exchange the old notes before we return back to Chicago , If not we will forego all the notes we have.

Indians living overseas with NRO accounts are not the people
With black money and should not be targeted. It is the businessmen in India who should pay. They are the ones who have managed to get out of this rule easily and we overseas citizens are paying a price. Is this fair? We should be given more flexibility rather than extending deadlines for Indians living in India. Please consider.

Doesn't OCI stand for Overseas Citizens of India and have been given all rights as a Citizen apart from Voting? Logic says they are also NRI Non Resident Indians!
It would help if the Indian Government allowed Dual nationality then none of there Indians living overseas would ever give up their Indian passport when we are all keen and continue to invest and maintain our ties with India.
It is unfair to differentiate when you are addressing us as the overseas Citizens of India!

I visited my father in India in Sep 2016 and have about Rs 8000. We should be allowed to exchange in any bank, not just RBI (limited), up to for a year or more.

We are very distressed senior citizens. As it's our hard earned money which we use when we come to mumbai as we have a flat and left some currency in flat thinking that we will use currency left behind when we come back. As this would have helped to start with.
Also normally we come early December we had to delay and came 9.1.2017. This was because of my husband had bouts of black outs and was under hospital treatment. Thinking we would be ok ad it was extended till

On earth think of hoarding money.
Ok there may be few people who must have helped their relatives in India. But we do

Pls allow OCI card holders to also be able to exchange their 500/1000 rupee notes (up to a Rs. 25,000 limit), as explained in the petition. Why are we being penalised for no fault of ours? Do we just stand to lose this money totally??

Why have OCI's and PIO's bern forgotten by PM Modi after his multiple trips overseas reaching out to us and appealing to us to maintain strong connections wit our mother land.
