This is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard!! Mohawk is too small a school -- there would be no one doing anything if there are these kinds of restrictions! Enough already! If a kid can juggle and their parents don't mind, the school should not restrict their activities! Go, Ady, go!!

As a Mohawk alumni I am proud to say that I was privileged enough to take part in both the after school music programs and whatever athletics I decided to pursue. I found my education to be a richer experience due to this flexibility.

The decision that the director and his team made were without any discussion with administration, coaches, or students. I made this petition to try and voice the athletes, actors, and communities frustration. Big thanks to everyone who's signed or commented! I really appreciate it!

The three A's: academics, athletics, and arts. All three factors are needed for well rounded students! School systems should always support whatever makes their children the best they can be.

Students should absolutely have access to a well-rounded, enriching education and extracurricular activities. They should also have the opportunity to see the full picture when making decisions about their schedules. The school reacted, rather than took the time to discuss scheduling possibilities in advance of the audition process. Absolutely, scheduling is complicated, plus the school is lacking a late bus, which makes it more difficult for all kids to have the same access to transportation to and from rehearsal when they are also participating in sports. That said, there are innovative ways of working together, and the school needs to start thinking more creatively, even bring together the athletic director and music director to discuss ways of working together. Furthermore, it should be up to the parents to decide what their child(ren) can juggle when it comes to any extracurricular activities.

I find it absolutely ridiculous that you would punish the athletics who want to do other things beside the sport I think they should be able to do both

This is the most rediculous thing I have heard. I can't believe schedules can't be altered to help students do the things they love. I'm sure there are many students who want to be doing both of these activities, and they very well should be able to. They will only be doing these things for a few years until they are out of school, don't deny them of these things.

Honestly I can't say I'm surprised the musical director is doing this. The past few years they have been the only director to refuse to work around practice schedules.

Mohawk is a small school. Extracurriculars are drawing from the same pool of talented students. As a coach at mohawk I have had to learn how to help my athletes balance their lives while being allowed to pursue their passions. This is the time of their young lives when they are developing their talents to help them lead strong, healthy, well rounded adult lives.

There have been too many times the actors have been reprimanded for their love of sports and theater. They should be allowed to do both and should not have to chose one or the other.
