You state that backpacks are “tripping hazards,” so you ask the student to not have one so they can carry everything in their hands? What happens when someone drops their pencil hurrying from the bathroom to get to class on time and someone with folders full of papers slips on it? Or bump into each other because they cannot see what is in front of them and drops everything in the hallway? What about people with water bottles? They have to carry them in their hands, where they can easily slip in onto other people or the floor where people can trip. Half the water fountains in the school anyway do not even work, so it just an additional trip we have to make after going to our farther than hell, small than a third grader lockers. What about computer chargers? So many chargers will now get lost/mixed/stolen with other students. Hope the tech den ladies are ready this year. Are the KHS Admins just trying to conform to Indianapolis System Rules to seem higher in social status? Because they sure are faking with working on how the school rather than what the school/clubs/athletes need.

I know it is for safety reasons, but we need the right to carry backpacks around in school, it helps us out with carrying supplies plus the staff needs to trust students. Why punish all of us when only a couple kids are having issues.

okay so this is obviously because of the weaponry threat in our school. i worked in the office a couple years ago and there would be threats that seemed like least once a week. but think about this: if they want to eliminate the risk of weapons, why don’t they just ban backpacks all together? but this rule, students can STILL bring in guns/bombs in the backpack and into their locker. the threats will still continue on and this rule will minimize nothing. this rule is only making A HASTLE FOR STUDENTS AND TEACHERS and not preventing anything at all. also, if the school provides us with computers, how do they expect us to carry it? in our hands with the rest of our binders? i have a binder for each class that i know for sure will not fit in my locker. and i just recently got banned from the TOK room. i remember when facility ENCOURAGED students to have a binder for each class and have as many materials on me at all times so teacher do not have to pay with their own money for materials in the classroom (my teachers DO NOT deserve that). i would like to see school admins keep all of their stuff in the lockers we have. i would like to see school admins carry around their obvious hand bags for tampons and pads, and walk out of class with it in front of everyone to have the bathroom (but i have even had a teacher refuse to let me use the restroom when i informed them it was an emergency AFTER THE FIRST 10 MINUTES OF CLASS and was forced to stand up so i wouldnt ruin the seat and raise a tampon in the air to actually be able to leave without getting punished). I would like to see the school admin call the janitors when they have an accident in class because they could make it to their locker/bathroom. I would like to see the school admins bring their computers into the stall with them in fear that students will steal them, and hustle back to class trying not to drop it. I would like to see school admins pay for their broken/lost computers at tech den bc they did not have an

I see this as an attempt to keep unwanted items out of class. However, where there's a will there's a way. This rule is going to cause students to be constantly unprepared, tardy, and frustrated. Many students who normally stay out of trouble will start getting written up for too many tardies just because they are trying to follow this new proceedure. They'll also be reprimanded by teachers when they are unprepared for class. These students who begin to get in trouble no matter how hard they try are going to stop trying. I think this policy is setting the students up for failure.

These kids dont have enough time to go to lockers to get items for each class. I believe and heard its a weapon issue thats why this is being acted on. Do i want kids to be safe ABSOLUTELY do i want my child to be tardy to every class no way. Id rather see them carry clear backpacks honestly.

This rule is unreasonable. How are students expected to get to class on time when they have to get all the way from class to lock3r to class? These kids are going to be late, homework is going to be 1.Not turned in cuz it is lost or 2. Crumpled torn and lint ridden from being in these kids pockets. Laptops are going to be getting dropped or knocked out of hand. Makes no sense.

This policy was clearly made without the input of students or parents to find a solution to hazards identified by the school. Changing the policy to specify the type/ size of bag is a far better alternative.
