Wasn’t an athlete diagnosed with Covid? And now you want your kid to be out at risk for sports when the rest of the school has to “suffer” as well

There are plenty of ways to safely train. Since all of the other schools have decided to allow their athletes to train, why should we be the sole two schools in the entire conference who don’t have that privilege?

It’s stupid to allow the people who aren’t playing to make decisions for the people who love the game they play.

I believe coaches can run practices safely, and that participating in practice improve the mental health of our kids, and allow athletes the opportunities they deserve.

We are the ONLY district in our conference not allowing this. There are many valuable life lessons learned through sports. This also allows our kids to stay on par with other athletes!! This is imperative for earning college scholarships. If the IHSA and health department has approved this why would the district not allow it. All clubs and sports should be allowed at this point. There are districts having in person school successfully...I work in one. If coaches are willing to take on all the logistics let the kids play!!!!

Please consider the disadvantage our kids/teams will have by being the only school in the CSL not having in-person practices. It can be done safely.

Training can be done safely for our students. This happened in the summer and can effectively happen again. Please consider providing our student athletes the same opportunities that students at other CSL schools have.

I am a 219 parent. Yes, it takes work to create a safe environment, create rules, and enforce them. If other districts can do it, then so can we. And we should. We know our kids need physical activity in order to be their best intellectually, socially, and emotionally. District 219 has an obligation to provide our kids these resources. Let's not forget the non-athletic activities as well. We can and should create a safe environment for small groups of those kids as well.

I wholeheartedly concur. I believe our Athletic Department can manage these contact days safely and effectively and should be allowed the opportunity. They have already demonstrated their abilities with the Summer Camp Programs.

I am unsure what the motives of the district are. They didn’t even send out a letter stating why this is the case. Every other district has already started their off season sport practices. We were last to start in the summer and last to begin in the fall. These kids are already isolated from school and peers and this is the only thing left. Get it together D219!
