Prevent the Closure of Allander Indoor Bowling Club

The Indoor Bowling facility at the Allander has provided significant health and social benefits to a wide spectrum of local people from across the EDC area. To lose this facility would be a travesty as there is an increasing number of older people in the local population for whom exercise and social contact are increasingly important to maintaining health.

This is a disgrace that the Bowling facility will not be replaced ,particularly as “social prescribing “ ,which is heavily backed by NHS ,advocates exercise and social activities for loneliness.mental health and weight control. We have very few facilities this side of EDCouncil area and not all can afford private centres.

This is an important feature within a facility that is apparently being built to serve the community. Surely the facility is being built to give people options not remove them during apparent upgrades that actually facilitate the race to the bottom.

An essential community activity

I have family members and their friends in their 70’s who use this facility numerous times per week. It’s a social place for them and also fantastic exercise which helps their well-being. It’s also the only interaction people have in their day which helps with their emotional well-being. It would be an absolute disgrace to east Dunbartonshire council if the withdrawal of this facility is allowed to happen.

I see loads of people coming out of the indoor bowling section when I'm there, all looking happy and relaxed and chatting to each other. I'm sure at least some of these people would be very lonely without it. Unfair to discontinue.

I know a lot of elderly people who would really miss this facility

We need this fabulous club to continue.

This is a lifeline to many older residents. In an age where we are concerned with dementia and poor physical health in our ageing population we should be taking this demographic into consideration in any health and fitness planning .

There are people from all over come to play here, I know quite a few people from Drymen who travel to Milngavie

A backward step!

It’s important for everyone in the community to have a social place as well as keeping moving. People are living longer these days and need the likes of indoor bowling - do it exclude them from the community

This new sports facility must provide at least what the current one does.

This indoor bowling facility must stay. It is not only a much needed hub in social interaction but a sport facility a sport that can be played by any age. If you look at the national championships on tv you will see the age range that participate. Prior to any house building taking place it was agreed that the Allander sports centre would be replaced like for like. It a disgrace to even contemplate it not being replaced. A community needs places where people can get together whether it be social or sport.

Please don't close it!

Absolutely appalling

My dad was a member of Jordanhill BC before he passed away and would regularly play at the Allander when the outdoor season finished in October. I agree that people would even come from further than the local area to use these facilities and are a valuable asset to the older community.

Once again the older you get the more your forgotten about as though your needs are not important.

Bowling is an activity for people of all ages, it’s more than a sport it’s a supportive community, particularly for the elder generation. You should be trying to promote the game not shut it down. It should be promoted with a goal to encourage some of our younger generation to become involved and learn from the current generation of users - community spirit! How is it progression to rebuild and cut current facilities. Not good EDC!
