how old is your son now, and why don't you appeal if you have been turned down for dla, also does he have good or bad control of his diabetes, any other problems like depression , ide like to help if I can

there is no cure for this so why is it classed differently for some ...... All have a life threatening illness ....

Why should we have to jump threw hoops,for this benefit.there is no cure,and its life threatening.there needs to be a big shake up

My daughter is 16years and dx2003. I am working harder and longer minding her now than ever. I never expected to still be as involved but this is how it is and feeling invisible and dismissed despite 3am checks etc...

I have been diabetic since the age of 14 I am know 36!! My mum got a little bit of help but stopped at age 16. I have tried a couple of times but they always turn me down! As I am not that bad!!! Even though I need help with hypos if I miss them, good job I have a great husband.mI feel all children should get higher rate, they never asked for this. X

Children have to be in education until they are 18. So should be entitled to DLA until 18.

Type 1 is a lifelong condition which requires management 24/7. Everyday you worlk hard trying to gain back the days/months and years life expectancy is reduced by at diagnosis. Stress makes control more difficult yet families with type 1 often have battles, throughout school, university and the work place and often face discrimination. Why do they also have to fight for benefits which should help compensate for the extra expense this condition incurs and can help to live life closer to others without diabetes.

We can not leave our 5 year old daughter with anyone who is not trained. She does not know her hypo signs, therefore any exercise can be a danger even if she just runs round the garden, rides her bike, Jumps on a trampoline, plays with her brother or her friends . every time she eats she needs to eat she needs insulin if given too much it could be fatal. She is on a pump and she will not be able to use this for a long time as it could be fatal if she administered too much insulin or played with the pump and gave herself insulin by mistake. She cannot go round friends without me even just for a play. She cannot go to any sorts of clubs without me. Even when she is older if she does know her signs if crashing she might not be able to treat herself. She never wakes at night for hypos and does not move alot in her sleep, basically me, her dad and the school are keeping her alive. If she is not hypo aware when she is older she will all ways have to have people looking out for her it is a live long condition. She had her first sports day the other day and was low before her race these are things she is going to have to contend with all her life. If sick she and will not eat or constantly being sick she will end up in hospital. Living with T1 child the worry will never go away and whatever age they will have to looked out for. When a child gets older alot of them begrudge having diabetes and don't give themselves insulin therefore go high which affects there long term health not only that they could end up in DKA. Please consider how serious this condition is and recognize how much care a person with diabetes will always need Thank you Nina Denton

Type 1 is a massive burden for the sufferer, but also for the family who have to supply constant support. Insulin is a dangerous drug and so should not be left up to a teenager to administer on their own. Hypos and hypers can be extremely dangerous. Teenagers up to the age of 18 (and beyond- Type 1 doesn't just go away when you are 18!) easily need an extra hour of care (usually loads more) a day so should qualify for DLA/IPI

please listen to our struggles for our kids with t1. Every hour of every day and night is spent, worrying, planning, counting and preparing just to keep our kids alive irrespective of their age.
