The Alaska Senate, and more specifically the Education Committee, should be ashamed. I am mortified at the actions of the Senate majority this year. They are an embarrassment to the term "public service."

We need to give our children tools to protect themselves. An educated child knows the difference between "normal" and not okay. If you grow up in an abusive home you don't know what is going on is not normal.

The statistics are horrifying and make no mistake about it, while this happens to boys too, it is an overwhelmingly female oriented series of crimes which this bill seeks to address. We should all do well to remember who were the legislative leaders who decided that empowering children, mostly girls, to recognize abuse, is a "discretionary" decision. Shameful.
