Please keep working to pass a long term fiscal plan for Alaska that includes the cuts you've already made, a restructuring of the PFD, and new revenue sources like taxes.

You weren't hired to do whatever it takes to be re-elected. Both parties appear to be doing what's politically expedient instead of what undeniably needs to be done. I'm sure you have lots of constituents saying that they want to keep their full dividend; I do too. But you all should be able to do the math. Regardless of budget cuts (for my republican friends) and oil tax reform (for my democrat friends), Alaskans will still need to start chipping in and paying for the state government. Principles of math also dictate that an income tax or a sales tax won't work by themselves without reducing the PFD so stop using those things as an excuse to avoid a hard vote.

Alaska needs a revenue plan, not more cuts. Cap the PFD and pair that with a nominal income tax (percentage of federal to keep it simple) so that everyone making money off Alaska contributes to support services (including seasonal workers and Slope workers who live Outside). Sales taxes put proportionally more of the burden on lower income families, and if implemented, should exempt groceries and medical care.
