This needs to happen. Too much people from outside are coming into Alaska and filing outside the state and too much fraud giving false residency. Watch all the Natives will be swarmed with different Nationalities to have babies left & right.

Well I have lived here locally in Ketchikan Alaska since 1995. I wasn't born here but, I did go to school and graduate locally. Now I have children of my own and have been employed at our local State University for 5 years now. So would that not make me eligible? I mean I wasn't born here... however I was adopted at 7 and lived here ever since. I can tell you right now that the little amount of money we do get from the PFD in no way even comes close supporting my family. The money may help buy some essentials the kids need, or allow us to catch up on bills. The money usually only puts a small dent in them though.
This article seems to exclude the cost of living expenses that come with living in such a remote area. Everything we get is barged in (some comes via air). Hence the cost of everything from food to fuel is increased to match that. Even rent is. I mean for a decent apartment here in town for a family my size ranges from 900-1200 and that's only because we can get away with a two bedroom due to the fact we have an infant. If I really wanna bat it out... you would be looking at 1500-2000 for a decent 3 bedroom. However the cost to support and raise a family far outweighs the income generated year to year by the PFD.
I may not have been born her but I consider myself Alaskan. If not, then why the hell am I paying taxes to live here? If I'm not really Alaskan why should I contribute to the local native population or anyone else for that matter.... It should be like the wild west right? I see a huge amount of money I pay in taxes go to waste already. I can tell you right now that I have never heard anyone from the lower 48 say, "Hey I want to move to Alaska for the PFD!!!"
I also have a huge bone to pick with our local Native Corporation (KIC). Hell their treasury head just got caught stealing from another local elderly native person. That was the only case reported, who knows how many other people he has stolen from. He along with other accomplice

Strongly agree. Alaska is getting worse and worse thanks to everyone coming in. Highest rape rates in the world! Now the most crime in the world this has to stop. People move to Alaska for peace not so everyone can crowd this peaceful environment with evil

Sounds good to me but dont know if that would be feasible. A line would have to be drawn somewhere. However I do believe that all full blooded Natives should get it regardless if they live in Alaska or not. : )

My parents moved us up to Alaska in 1969 . Way before PFD started I should be elegeable. My kids are born here. I didn't have kids to claim more money. I believe people are only elide able if they had family roots here prior to 1982 when it actually was conceived to happen. Anyone that came here after came to put their hands in our pockets to get a share of the loot.

I am a lifelong (born/raised) Alaskan and I agree that only ALASKANS should receive this money.
Large families & people from all over move to alaska to get dividend then they send that money out of state. If we kept our spending within AK; our state would be richer and we would have more jobs for Alaskans. Why? because all of the people who moved to this beautiful state for the dividend, would move back to wherever they came from. I call it a win/win for all true Alaskans

I have lived here since I was 18mo old. My mom has lived here longer than you are old probably. We were here before the dividend began. We are Alaskans. Maybe extend the waiting period. But I am just as Alaskan as you are and I should get the dividend if you get it.
