Airport Acres For Responsible Development

This will bring over population and will mess up the community feel of this neighborhood!

Ok, so this is not a signature as there is a comment feature on this board. Very authoritarian on your part to not encourage a discussion or address the concerns. The town will approve this when we put forth our worries about discrimination and exclusionary zoning. While colorful in expression, I agree with the spirit of this concern. You sound like people back in the 50's and 60's that did not want blacks to move into their suburban neighborhoods. Why would you want to deny affordable housing near a school like this ? Do you know what a blessing housing like this would be to a stressed out single mom ? Lets cut to the chase here, I have driven through that neighborhood and it is lily white, very upscale now with homes being snapped up by professors and professionals that work at the crc. It raises red flags when that affluent demographic screeches about socioeconomically disadvantaged, marginalized peoples might dare to want to live in the same neighborhood, frightening your poor, precious "free range children" God forbid people of color may be hootin and hollerin disturbing your safe spaces. For the mom that is offended by students she has to live with, I know such a mom that lives in the town houses off nellies cave road and her place is a dump compared with the well taken care of town houses that the students live in right next to her!! I know many of you, you are good, partisan, progressives and you should be ashamed. You will put a black man in the whitehouse, but freak out if they want to live in your neighborhood. Get a life and let a few folks not as fortunate as yourselves into your enclave.

This is a bad idea that will adversely affect infrastructure and quality of life if not property values. Stop this development and developer vultures.

I lived in Airpirt Acres when my sons were in elementary school. My family still feels it was a special neighborhood! Please don't change it and deny future generations the priveledge of this experience!

This is a small family neighborhood where young families with children as well as older people live. They walk to school, walk their dogs, jog, bike, and walk for exercise on the Huckleberry trial where most everyone knows how to behave so that others will be able to have an enjoyable experience. An influx of a large number of students many who will not be following driving rules, bike safety rules, and proper behavior in general because it's their first time away from home will obviously question the safety of local residents. I also have concerns about alcohol use and driving as it affects the safety of current residents. Obviously, it should not even need to be stated that having this type of living situation right next to an elementary school has got to be one of the most reckless decisions that anyone could make. I have lived in an apartment exactly like the ones shown when I was in my 40's while working on a degree at VT and I know what goes on. Loud noise from music, parties at all hours of the night, cars coming and going at all hours of the day and night, possibly a new bus stop on Airport Rd. trash, so much more traffic, if pets are allowed, more dog crap just left on the ground because the new dog ownersdon't feel like picking it up, and general lack of concern.. Current residents strive to keep the neighborhood nice, calm, quiet, enjoyable, safe, clean, and anything but an eyesore. I do realize that not all of the new residents will act this way, but it only takes a few to destroy what we have here in this neighborhood. I think that if there is no way to stop this then the design should incorporate a large landscape design for the sides and front of the structures so that it is not visible from the road, the school, or the neighborhood to the right. It seems that the developer cares only for monetary gain. Put him in a house in this neighborhood next door to this type of building and see how he feels about it. It may be a good plan, but a bad location. I don't think Southgate or Airport Road. Solve the traffic problem first, then we can perhaps talk about rezoning.

Keep the student sprawl on campus! Don't destroy property values and cultural values in existing family neighborhoods.

Changing the zongin on these two parcels would have a negative effect on the neighborhood and on the school zone.

Even though this might mean that Graves would be a 2 way street, changing this area would be adverse to Margaret Beeks and to the Children's Nest. There is a lot of traffic just from Main Street. The increase in car traffic would grow to a new level. There is a housing community that has seniors as well as business professional's and would be very dangerous. Please reconsider your thoughts.

Next to a school and too many people!

I used to live in Airport Acres and this is an amazing community that would not benefit, but rather be negatively impacted, by a development like this. Please keep in mind the safety of the children at Margaret Beeks Elementary School and the character of that community when assessing this proposal, and keep the current land use designation of low density residential housing.

My family lives at 400 Craig Dr Blacksburg VA and my 3 grandchildren will be adversely affected.

This property, next door to an elementary school and adjacent to-or part of-a neighborhood of small single-family homes needs to remain zoned low-density residential. To change the zoning to allow higher density, along with the accompanying increased traffic, would quite negatively impact the potential safety of the students and the quality of life in the neighborhood.

This is not the right area for multi-unit dwellings.

My husband and I are strongly opposed to this proposal. We are the new owners of The Children's Nest Daycare and have a 5th grader at Beeks.

This is ridiculous. The last thing Blacksburg needs is more ugly, unused apartments, and putting it so close to the school would be a horrendous inconvenience for all of the teachers, students, and their families.
