Against Child Hunger: A Letter From Witney Residents

Please reconsider your shameful decision to deny support for hungry children during school holidays. Even by your standards, this is a cruel and unreasonable way to treat children.

What kind of a nation are we if we don’t make sure every child is safe and fed

If the government can help the hospitality industry with Eat Out to Help Out, it can help children whose hunger is a disgrace to a civilized country.

Just shows you how this administration and especially the MP for West Oxfordshire really don’t care about the people that are in true need in this country. Self-serving, power obsessed sycophants.

Absolutely disgusted, but sadly not surprised that our MP Robert Courts was happy to vote against giving disadvantaged children (whose disadvantage he and his party help to perpetuate) the basic human right of a decent meal once a day. He needs to wake up and see the poverty and inequality that is staring him in the face and he is happy to ignore.

In such hard times, it is beyond belief that our government thinks letting children be hungry is ok. Not in our names.

Please show some humanity from your Ivory Tower

Absolutely disgraceful to withhold food from the most needy yet MPs can award themselves a pay increase. Shame on you all!

I struggle to find any reason for Robert Courts and the Tory party to vote against children not being given free school meals other than the fact that they continue to be so out of touch with working class families in the UK. They are punishing innocent children and parents who are doing their best during very difficult and uncertain times. If there is money for Tory cronies to set up unchallenged tenders for various contracts there is surely money to give a hot meal to young people who have already had their futures ruined by 10 years of needless austerity. Mr Courts and his elitist mates should be ashamed of themselves, but as they have no empathy it obviously doesn't even register on their moral compass.

I am disgusted you actually voted this down initially. You are supposed to represent the people of Witney NOT your own career. Shameful. Put it right

I have already written to Mr Courts outlining how there were many families in his constituency relying on food banks and free school meals were a necessity. I work at a local food bank and deliver meals to vulnerable families affected by the Covid crisis. Children have waited at the door hungry. I am appalled with Mr Courts and the Conservative Party in 2020.

Innocent childern should not be allowed to go hungry and it is imperative that they receive free schol meals.

Disgraceful to vote against helping children. Maybe you could donate your forthcoming £3000 pay rise to a food bank to make some amends for this.

Put yourself in their young shoes.

Dear Robert Courts, Please don't let our local kids go hungry in the holidays. Please think again.

Please show some compassion and common sense towards the children who really need your help.

Truly appalled by your failure to support free meals during the holidays . Millions has been wasted by this government and when the opportunity arises to help some of the most vulnerable in society you prefer to play politics

So much money paid for consultants who do not deliver and suppliers of PPE which similarly do not deliver what is needed yet children are allowed to go hungry because their families cannot afford to feed them. Disgraceful!

If you voted because that's what you were told to do then you need to grow a pair. If you voted with your conscience then shame on you. Not in my name.

The least we can do is make sure every child really does count.
