This petition was spawned from the untimely death of a former youth in care. I believe that with proper training and supports from MCFD in BC it would bring down the stats or former youth in care ending up on welfare or into criminal justice instituitions. Creating an after care program and raising the age for individuals to stay in care for these young adults, would lead to more healthy and productive citizens.

I am currently drafting a formal proposal for the Ministry that outlines the specific gaps in the current transition process. Several provincial policy analysts have reached out to discuss the structural requirements for a formal after care program.

truly sad that it takes a tragedy to get people talking. kids deserve a fighting chance even after they hit 19.

About time someone spoke up about this. These kids are being set up to fail by the system. FIX IT.

My brother aged out and had nowhere to go. It is heartbreaking watching these kids get thrown into the real world with zero support. This needs to change now.
