At WHS we only read books by white men and one white women. Please sign this petition to support the choice to add diversity to our education!

Seeing this kind of momentum confirms that I am not the only one at WHS who feels like our current reading list is incomplete. It means the world to know that so many of you want a library that reflects a much wider range of human experience.

More diversity in student reading is a good idea. It could spark discussions and promote tolerance for issues other than those that our students have available in our community.

I'd like to see more diversity in our literature curriculum that reflects a worldview of cultural diversity, as well as a more balanced selection of genders.

Does it have to be limited to African American writers? One of the great books of all time is Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe, a Nigerian author, this book is about the damage of colonialism in Africa. In this time of trump, we need to educate our students about the world beyond central Maine.
