Health care expenses
continue to rise at unsustainable rates. We must all work together to find
solutions and compromises that help keep costs in check. As a local health care
consumer, I’m signing in support of Salem Health and Regence reaching a fair
resolution that provides Salem patients, families and our community with access
to affordable, high-quality care.
I am truly overwhelmed by the momentum behind this because I genuinely thought this would only be a private concern of mine. It is clear now that this community cares deeply about access to care and you are the ones driving this forward.

As a local physician, I understand the dire need for affordable healthcare in this area. It's imperative that Salem Health recognizes this.

As an individual with a chronic, life long, autoimmune disease and having BCBS as my insurance I find it absurd that the only hospital in my town is out of network with my large, commercial insurer. It’s ridiculous.

Coming from a mom who was in labor for 5 hours with the first child and 2.5 hours for the second child. So much could happen in the time frame to go to the next hospital that’s a good 45 minutes away that’s not including traffic depending on time of day is very scary. Especially when they have one Just 10 minutes away.

I dont have BCBS, but i still find this situation to be unacceptable. No one should ever have to drive away from the hospital next door, or risk possible bankruptcy.
I am sure both sides feel they are justified in threatening the residents of Salem. But i am sure the people who have been paying their premiums feel like both sides are gambling with their healthcare.

Not coming to an agreement is forcing thousands of Salem residence to travel to an inferior hospital for inferior care. They will be traveling to hospital that are smaller with less services only to potential have complications and need to be transferred to either back to Salem or another larger hospital. Regence needs to except that if they want to provide good care to their consumers than they need to come to an agreement with Salem Health or lose all of these clients to other insurance providers.
