Please don't take us back in time. This renovation is desperately needed.

As a former Pierce student in the 90s-2000s, the school was in pretty bad shape then, and from what I've seen it's only gotten worse.

I'm a Pierce parent (and will be through 2036), and I am concerned that we will yet again kick the can down the road, and end up with even worsening conditions and higher costs for the tax payers. The concerns the Advisory Committee has brought up were addressed during the very open and public School Design process. They should plan to be more involved in future processes from the start, but not hijack this one at the end. The current Pierce school, besides literally crumbling, is built from solid concrete, making it INCREDIBLY expensive and difficult to modify or improve, especially the plumbing and electrical. It was also built for only 3 sections of kids, and we are at a 4 section size school, and if international visiting fellows/students return to pre-pandemic levels in Brookline, enrollment is sure to go up again. It is not ADA accessible. There are woefully insufficient bathrooms (so much that kids hold all day rather than use them). The Pierce community has sacrificed for years, and in SPITE of poor conditions has performed well academically (not because of these conditions, as some have suggested). There are many important needs in our community, but we cannot drop our promises to the one school community that keeps getting put at the back of the line, which will also jeopardize having the State cover about 20% of the bill to update our infrastructure. I hope the Select Board and School Committee will move to quickly get this process started to get it on the ballot. The community is behind them!

Do no delay the renovation of Pierce school.

I support this project; however, I understand that it will include closing School St. to through traffic. While I sympathize the need for improved access to the playground, I'm concerned about the impact on traffic patterns through the Emerson Garden neighborhood. Has this been taken into account?

This is not a matter of "keeping up with other renovated schools". The Pierce building is not fit to use as a school. It needs to be replaced.

We need this work to get done asap. That video says it all. We pay way too much in taxes for our kids to have to have sub-standard educational facilities.

My grandchildren will be going to Pierce in the future and is unsafe!

If we don’t improve Pierce school the real state prices in Brookline will go down.

TMM, P6. This project needs to move forward expeditiously. Our community and our kids deserve a modern learning environment and it is our duty to provide it without delay. Our schools are one of the main reasons people want to live in Brookline, a fact that supports our tax base. Let's drop the eleventh hour cold feet and move forward.

The decision to move forward with the Pierce project needs to be decided by the community and not a couple of committees in town that is not representative of the larger community voice. Pierce, it's students, staff, and the community need this renovation to move forward quickly. No more stalling!
