Sending love and support to LGBTQ members of the Lee University community, past and present, with hopes that the university and denomination will do more to support and love you in the future. It's others who need to change, not you.

I loved my own Lee experience, and I also knew many students who felt guilted and suppressed for being the authentic version of themselves. I wish I’d been a better support then, but I’m glad to support now.

I'm a Lee Alum (class of '95) and the mom of an LGBTQ kid. I've learned that God's love is bigger and more extravagant than we have imagined. I stand with you. ❤️

The shaming needs to stop. It only hurts and drives those away who are sincerely seeking understanding of themselves and identity.

I am signing, but I want to make clear that this isn't just about Lee policy. Lee is acting in accordance with the doctrine of the Church of God. This means that Lee would either need to divorce from the denomination, or the CoG will reform for change to be possible.

Lee University... you need to do better. This way of behaving is not the embodiment of Christ that you claim to be.

As an institution of higher education, it seems to me that you should present the material you covering, and leave your personal interpretation out of the classroom.

It is a fundamental tenant of the faith: We are Catholic through baptism, it cannot be erased by sin. The catechism states that educating our consciences “is indispensable for human beings ” and that this education “is a lifelong task.” As a community, we need to work on developing our consciences and come to a collective understanding, for we might be doing things that we do not even know are wrong and harmful to others. This does not mean we are evil people, but it does mean we need to learn more in order to change these harmful behaviors.
