I stand with the LGBTQ+ community and hope that one day I can be a proud alumni of Lee again but I cannot stand by a school, no matter how beautiful my memories are, that ostracizes a community I love so dearly. Please open your hearts and minds to your community.

I went to Lee because I felt called there by God. Going there showed me how “Christians” treated those that they considered sinners. Instead of loving and supporting others, they shamed them and made a few leave. I left after one semester because I felt my depression overwhelm me. I am a Christian and a member of the LGBTQ+ community. Be better examples of Christians, please. Be better humans. My God loves His children.

It’s heartbreaking that a petition like this is still needed anywhere that calls itself ‘Christian’. It’s heartwarming that so many are seeing the need and doing something about it.

The students and alumni of Lee University deserve their human rights to be honored and respected. We will no longer accept petty tyrannies from religious institutions who preach a hypocritical message to what Jesus Christ actually taught. I stand with my LGBTQIA+ brothers and sisters at Lee and beyond. In His Name we pray. Amen.
