The 9-6 rule is punitive and unsustainable. CUNY adjuncts need and deserve workload regulations and salary increases that support their tenuous living situations and extraordinarily hard work. CUNY and the PSC are hurting their entire communities by refusing to recognize the real contributions adjuncts make to CUNY.

Adjunct pay is so low at CUNY and this makes life harder. I think the impetus for this was originally to prevent overwork of adjunct faculty, but the result instead is to up their commuting time and to force more of them to work outside of the CUNY system. The situation should change.

This is certainly a step in the right direction but it is not enough. Consider my situation. I teach six hours at one CUNY school and three hours at another, for a total of 12 hours. While I appreciate that this proposal would enable me to teach 15 hours (and while I'd be happy to have the additional three hours) who can live on 15 hours a week? As it is I'm doing the work of a full time professor (maybe even more). I'm not saying CUNY has to make me rich, but how about a livable wage? I supplement my CUNY salary by working as a substitute teacher, which means I'm working six days a week just to get by.

To one of the "anonymous" fellows … Yes, with 15 hours we should be considered full-time. Yet, we are not and we will not be. And yet, we NEED to work 15 hours, so let us WORK 15 hours. As it is, most of us cannot because of that perhaps-relevant-in the 90's-rule-now-outdated-and ridiculous. In 2016, when a studio goes for $1,500 a month, at the lowest, I think that the rule is as arrogant and, plainly, fascist, as the CUNY's determination not to come to an agreement with our so called unions. And, by the way, are adjuncts included in the pay increase? NO.

This is my number one complaint. This ridiculous rule forces me to teach at multiple institutions outside of CUNY, spreading myself thin. It's also prevented me from exploring numerous opportunities within CUNY... Repeal this rule!

Too often adjunct staff are treated like step children of the college/university, when we offer essential services without the respect we are due. Limiting our ability to teach to 9 credits is another example of that disrespect.
