I agree with the petition. More of the adjuncts are graduate students. In my case I have to pay for my master and also for my bills, and the restriction does not allow me to be focus on my work and studies, because I need to look for another extra job.

It is a national disgrace that even with our high-cost education and dedication to teaching, we have to work under an administratively-designed, economically exploitative and disrespectful system. This is a system that functions as a disservice to us, to our students, and to the nation. One of the illogical and shameful realities involved is that money that could be used to fund education and hire more full time faculty is being wasted on waging wars that slaughter human beings..
Does anyone see any sign of hope for positive change?

Hello Gray,
The petition is not requesting more hours beyond the 15 hour university-wide limit. We are simply trying to change the campus limit from 9 to 12 and do away with the one-course limit at a second campus. The three-year appointments now in effect require a "comprehensive review" which will not give us more hours; it will maintain the same workload limit. It only insures 6 hours which is less than many have and have had which they depend on. In effect the increased degree of evaluation gives us one thing: the "comprehensive review." Providing people who have been accustomed to 9 hours with a 6 hour assurance is no gift, and now we have to face "perpetual" review for the rest of our lives after we have already passed our ten semester review period. This is what President Bowen and the EC have so proudly given us. So Gray, I hope you will not support a more rigorous review process. Those who have been teaching in the system for more than the ten semester review period have already demonstrated sufficient ability to work. Apart from this, we are dealing with a system that has transformed many of the core courses from 3 to 4 hours which makes it impossible for some to retain the three courses upon which they depend. What is so daunting is that CUNY wants to give adjuncts an open 15 hour workload limit. The PSC has acknowledged this and has continued to reject this offer and reject any and all attempts to amend article 15.2 section (a)...the 9/6 rule.
