I teach in a private school, not a public school, but I, too, am committed to getting Orton-gillingham training. One in five? I am certain I have had some students in my reading classes that struggle with dyslexia through the years. I am committed to getting trained to help them learn!

As a teacher and the mother of a dyslexic child, this is long overdue!

As a Speech Language Pathologist I know how important it is for individuals with dyslexia to have the proper interventions in place. I hope this petition helps children get the proper educational resources they are entitled to.

The struggles our family has gone through both before and after my son was diagnosed are at no end. I've lost my faith in the NYC DOE. It's 2014 and these children who struggle through no fault of their own have no help within the school system. These children are the future of this country. Let's invest in them.

It feels like the walls are closing in around us! Why won't the special education system help us?

Knowledge is power! Let's give the teachers of NYS the power to help our children who struggle with dyslexia! Let's teach our fledging teachers that dyslexia DOES exsists and there are strategies and programs that can help. Let's get our collective heads out of the sand and look at the research!

Let's invest in diagnosis. Resources for children and parents. A successful student is a successful adult. Dyslexic students are some of the brightest most intellegent human beings! Without resources they become under utilized in society, sometime unable to hold a sustainable job, which leads to emotional and social problems. An in the end the money spent on facilitating success and skills end up sustaining them on public resources. One success full identified child them had the tools to help there children and there children's children!

Our state and our nation should be ashamed with its failure to educate our children in their most basic need - READING!!
