Change is needed in the way we educate our dyslexic children. My daughter went undiagnosed by the school after several rounds of testing. I had to argue and threaten to have retesting done. We had to seek outside help and testing. By this point my daughter's self esteem was affected. She thought she was stupid and hated school. In order for her to learn to read. My daughter is in 11th grade and nothing has changed since she was diagnosed in 3rd grade. I still hear the same stories. NYS educational system needs to stop failing children with dyslexia. Please support this bill!

It's unbelievable that we need a petition to address a serious a common fault in our education system. It doesn't get any more basic than reading. Action now.

These kids need help, they learn differently, but as history shows, they can be incredibly brilliant people.

As a certified dyslexia practitioner and Orton gillingham educator I can attest to the urgent need for this law!

My child made it to eight grade before he was diagnosed with dyslexia. That was only because I paid for additional testing outside of the school district. And after I brought that to the school board, they asked me how to teach my child.

Teachers need to be made aware of the signs of dyslexia so they can recommend further testing. My son struggled for 5 years until I scheduled testing for him. Most of his teachers said he'll grow out of his issues. My district didn't even test for dyslexia.
