Use Google Play as a platform to publish your app and then make use of ads or in-app purchases. Having merchant accounts would just be more... convenient. Regards

So has anybody found another way to monetize their apps or sell their apps. We are losing out big time. By the time Google adds us as merchants, the market will be on a downward trend if not saturated with big name studios.

Please add South Africa, its time we got to play with the big boys.
